Aim and
Subject of the
Conference

This conference deals each year with selected topic on the scientific, open and democratic way, with the aim to contribute to the reliable understanding of the sense, purposes and implications of entering the European union and timely preparations for this cultural, sociopolitical, economic and overall undertaking of epochal importance to the Western Balkans countries.

The structure of the Conference

The structure of the conference has got a new concept which means that, in addition to two major topics, a third topic has been introduced in order to offer a comprehensive overview of the current state, foreseeable future and potential for the overall sustainable development of a very specific discipline, i.e. technology. In order to maintain the tradition it will be labeled as the third topic, although it will be used to open the meeting.

The first topic

The first topic of the conference reads Models, Strategies and Mechanisms for the Sustainable Development of Small Countries in Transition. This topic has been determined as a response to (a) dissatisfaction with the social, economic and other results of the ongoing transition, (b) responsibility of the research, educational, cultural and other communities to propose solutions for key elements that ensure transition continuation, (c) perceived interest among the participants of the conference for this topic, and (d) beliefs that there are much better paths of transition from those which have been taken so far. The purpose of this topic is a holistic, exploratory quest for a transition that would lead to the realization of the vision of the future economic, social, cultural and other systems that is achievable and preferred by the majority of the population.

The second topic

The second topic of the conference reads Ways to Ensure High Quality Educational Outcomes. This topic is a response to (a) belief that the outcomes of the current educational system are significantly below the needed and achievable quality, (b) the importance of quality education for sustainable development, especially in the case of small countries in transition, (c) the unacceptability of devastating effects of ever-present barriers to modernization of the educational system and (d) continual interest of the conference's participants for the problems of education. This topic is, according to the tradition of the conference, this year's concretization of the general topic of knowledge based development.

The third topic

The third topic of the conference reads Energy technologies for sustainable energy supply - economic, environmental, political and other strategic implications. For this topic, organizers will select three papers by invitation. Interested parties are welcome to suggest titles (subjects) and / or authors for the selected papers.
